'말레이시아에서 한국어를 가르치는 한국어 교사인데, 지난 7월 25일 마트에 장을 보러 갔다가 반가운 한글을 발견했어요. 당연히 한국 제품일 거라는 기대와는 달리 태국에서 만든 태국 식품에 옥수수를 한글로 크게 써서 붙여 놓았더군요. 영어로 corn, 말레이어로 jagung이지만 한글로 옥수수라고 써져 있으니 안 살 수가 없었어요. 옥수수...그 한글 이름도 너무 예쁘지만 맛도 끝내주잖아요!
I am a Korean language teacher teaching in Malaysia, and on July 25th, I went to the market to do some shopping and unexpectedly came across a delightful Hangul sighting. Contrary to my expectation that it would be a Korean product, I found Korean written prominently in Hangeul on a Thai food product made in Thailand. In English, it's 'corn,' and in Malay, 'jagung,' but seeing '옥수수' (corn) written in Hangeul, I couldn't resist buying it. Corn... even its Korean name is so beautiful, and the taste is absolutely fantastic!
