이 사진은 제가 할아버지의 79번째 생신 때 제 여동생과 할아버지를 조부모님의 정원에서 찍은 사진입니다. 할아버지는 1990년대 초 러시아에서 한국 친구를 만난 이후부터 한국 문화에 관심이 많으셨고, 그분 으로부터 한국에 대해 현재 알고 있는 모든 것을 배우셨습니다. 슬프게도, 할아버지는 정말 가고 싶어도 한국에 한번도 가보지 못하셨고, 그래서 우리는 할아버지의 생일을 특별하게 만들기 위해 ‘한글’을 가져다 드렸습니다. 우리는 종이 등불에 할아버지를 위해 우리가 가진 모든 소원들을 적었고, 우리는 할아버지에게 가장 중요한 단어”사랑해요!”가 적힌 카드를 드렸습니다. 이 사진은 가장 순수한 형태의 사랑을 보여주며, 우리 할아버지가 그러셨듯 어떤 것에 관심을 갖는 데에 나이나 거리는 결코 문제가 되지 않는다는 걸 보여줍니다.
This is a picture of my younger sister and me with our grandfather at our grandparents' garden on his 79th birthday. Since meeting a Korean friend in Russia in the early 1990s, our grandfather has been very interested in Korean culture and learned everything he knows about Korea from them. Sadly, he never had the chance to visit Korea despite his strong desire to do so. To make his birthday special, we brought ""Hangeul"" to him. We wrote all our wishes for him on paper lanterns, and we gave him a card with the most important words to him, ""I love you!"" This picture shows the purest form of love and demonstrates that age and distance are never barriers to developing an interest in something, just as our grandfather did.
